CELEBRATING

This past week has been amazing!
Last Tuesday, I won the purchase prize award at the 19th Annual Sarah Carlisle Towery Art Colony  on Lake Martin for the painting Hydrangeas and Peaches shown below.
The judges for the prize were the two instructors for this year's SCT Art Colony, Colley Whisson of Australia and Angus Macpherson of New Mexico. My painting will reside in the SCT Permanent Collection at the Board of Education in Alexander City, AL.
On Saturday at The Grand Festival of Art in Fairhope, AL, I won Second Prize in the juried show!

Glacier National Park Paintings

Had a wonderful hiking trip to Glacier National Park in September.
Our first day we experienced the first snow of the season and then it warmed to upper 70's during the day and 50's at night with big beautiful blue skies for the remainder of our stay.
I have had time to do two paintings so far, but I have a treasure of photos and memories to last for a lifetime of painting.

We hiked to this location and had lunch along the shore.

Would not have had this next scene to paint if we had not had to stop for a 30 minute road construction delay!

New work and upcoming shows

I attended a workshop this spring to study with a favorite artist of mine, Guido Frick. Guido creates beautiful still life and landscape paintings. It was the second workshop of his I have attended.
His classes, in conjunction with last year's Alabama Art Colony instructor Qiang Huang, inspired me to focus on still life paintings.
I hope you enjoy the one I posted. I will have some more posted on my website soon!

I decided to paint a series of restaurant scenes for my next outdoor art show in Fairhope this March.
I have not used Payne's Grey on my palette for several months and decided to play with it again.
I painted this yesterday from a photo I took in December while having lunch at a
restaurant in the Ferry Building in San Francisco.

Bay Rivers Art Guild 2011 Juried Show

I entered three paintings in BRAG's  show and all three were accepted! Here is one of them.
I painted this scene from a photo I took last September while on a hiking adventure in Yosemite.
As many of you know, I have a story for every painting.
Early one morning we were driving through the valley to get to our trailhead for that day. In a very wooded section where nothing but big tree trunks were in view, I asked Taylor to pull over to the side of the road. I grabbed my camera and walked down to find the bank of the Merced River. I am not sure why I even asked Taylor to stop, I just had a feeling. When I found the shore line I looked up to find this incredible view of El Capitan!

More Paintings through Outreach

This painting is from a photo I took several years ago while on a sailing trip to Anquilla from St. Martin. It was a picture perfect day. I saw a photo on Yahoo! this morning of a famous basketball star riding a bike while vacationing on the island. This painting was placed today at Sunflower Cafe in Fairhope along with other tropics inspired paintings.

This is a palette knife painting of the Mobile Delta. I did this painting several years ago and have not done much palette work lately.  Let me know what you think.
I placed it today at Thomas Hospital in Daphne through
Bay Rivers Art Guild Outreach.
